Bringing the Family
Reunion offers a great opportunity for classmates to introduce their children to campus and the surrounding community. The Class of ’99 has planned family-friendly activities, the highlight being the Saturday afternoon “Fun in the Sun” carnival, a joint venture with the Classes of ’94, ‘89 and ’84. This event will include activities, contests, music, an ice cream social, and more.
In addition, we will have a special area in headquarters with assorted children’s materials and activities provided. The university does not allow us to sponsor babysitting services at our class headquarters. You may find yourself restricted in your activities and participation in Reunion if you do not arrange for a babysitter and/or sign up for one of the programs that the university has arranged.
Please consider the following childcare options and information:
Children younger than 16 must be supervised at all times on the Cornell campus. In addition, New York State law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from entering the Arts Quad tents in the evenings, even if accompanied by a parent.
If you are bringing children under the age of 16, you must sign a university release agreement. The release form is enclosed in this packet and must be returned with your registration materials. If you register online, bring the form with you to the registration check-in at class headquarters.
Due to liability issues, we are not able to make individual babysitter referrals; however, the American Red Cross maintains a list of sitters in the Ithaca area who have completed its training program. You can obtain this listing by calling 607-273-1900 ext. 14. Note: The class has not investigated this service or the suitability of sitters on the list.
If you choose to bring a babysitter (who must be 16 or older), you can register him/her for the BYOB (Bring Your Own Babysitter) package for the entire weekend for $100.
For children 12 weeks to 10 years, evening childcare is available at the Ithaca Community Childcare Center. Pre-registration is required. See the IC3 brochure for details.
For children 6 to 15 years old, there is a university-sponsored Youth Program on Friday and Saturday, beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m. You must pre-register your children by May 22. See Youth Program brochure. Please note: fees for the university youth programs are separate from the class registration fees for children.
